Tel Aviv, Israel – Israel’s capital city, has been asked to invest $8 million to build the country’s first “global internet” network, and to upgrade its mobile broadband network, in a bid to improve the countrys overall broadband performance.
The city council approved the plan Wednesday, as part of a plan to improve Tel Aviv’s broadband speed by about 15%.
In a report released Wednesday, the Tel Aviv Municipality estimated that the new network will boost Internet speeds by 15% in the city and a further 25% in surrounding areas.
The $8m project is part of an initiative to improve broadband in the capital city that has become a focal point for criticism of the Israeli government for its slow Internet performance, with criticism that Tel Aviv is slow to move toward digital connectivity, especially for young people.
