The Asianet Fiber network is the first commercial fiber-to-the-home network for Asian countries and is being developed to provide affordable broadband to the people of the region.
The Asiannet network is being built by China’s state-owned telecommunications company China Telecom, and it is expected to be completed by 2019.
It is expected that this network will be the backbone of the Asia-Pacific region.
“This network will serve as the backbone for a number of Asian countries’ broadband networks,” AsiaNet president and CEO Joseph Yang said in a statement.
“It will provide the backbone to connect Asia’s largest and fastest growing population to broadband speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second, which will enable them to access the latest and greatest services.
The AsiaNet fiber network will provide a critical infrastructure link to the world’s largest digital market and will contribute to the development of Asia’s global economy.”
The AsianNet fiber is also the first broadband service that China has announced for its own country.
China Telecom also said in its statement that the fiber network is “the most advanced broadband network in Asia.”
“This will enable us to build a network that will help Asia reach the 21st century,” Yang said.
“We are creating the AsiaNet Fiber Network, which is the world-class infrastructure to provide access to the next generation of technology, to the Asian region, and beyond.”
In addition to the Asiaet Fiber, AsiaNet has partnered with Japanese telco Yaskawa Network to build the first-ever 100Mbps network in Japan.
The new network is expected bring speeds of 1,500 megabit per second.
In 2016, China Telecom announced it had invested $30 billion into the Asia Internet Network.
“China Telecom is the most important company in the Asia Pacific region, representing the world of China and its economic potential,” AsiaTech chairman Zhou Hao said in an official statement.
AsiaNet plans to invest an additional $2 billion in the network.
